How much does a Starlink rental in SF cost?

Choose the day you’ll collect the kit in San Francisco and the day you’ll bring it back. Both count as rental days. A Friday pickup with a Sunday return is three days, so the rental is $75 at the current $25 daily rate.

The date checker shows current availability for one kit. A quote does not reserve it. When bookings open, the system checks availability again as you enter checkout and confirms your reservation after Stripe verifies the rental payment.

What you pay, and when

The full rental price is paid at booking. A separate $200 card authorization is requested at pickup as security for the equipment. That authorization temporarily reserves funds; it is not an additional rental charge.

Card holds expire. For a longer rental, a fresh authorization may be needed. We’ll need to coordinate that before handoff. After return and inspection, an unused hold is released; your bank controls when the funds become available again. See the rental terms and Stripe’s explanation of card holds.

Where do I pick up and return the kit?

Pickup is planned in San Francisco. The exact location, meeting time, return instructions, and contact details are still being finalized. Don’t travel to collect equipment until those details have been confirmed.

At handoff, check the kit together: the Mini, its stand, power supply, cables, and any accessories listed in your reservation. Confirm what is included before planning around a battery, car adapter, mount, or carrying case.

How to set up your Starlink Mini

Starlink needs power and open sky. Before a trip from SF to a campground, a cabin, or a work site, check both. A heavily wooded campsite or a narrow gap between buildings can interrupt the connection even when your phone sees the Wi-Fi network.

1. Check your power source. Make sure it works with the supplied power equipment. Don’t assume a phone charger or small power bank is enough.
2. Find an open, stable spot. Keep the dish clear of roofs and branches, and route cables away from foot traffic.
3. Use the Starlink app. Its obstruction check helps you assess the sky view. Follow the supplied setup instructions and connect to the kit’s Wi-Fi.
4. Test before you need it. Give yourself time to adjust the placement and check the connection before a call or other time-sensitive work.

Planning a camping trip or temporary internet?

A rental can make sense when you need satellite internet for a few days rather than a permanent setup. For a camping or road trip from San Francisco, plan where the Mini will sit when you stop, how you’ll power it, and when you’ll return to SF with the kit.

For temporary internet at a work site or another location, check whether you can place the dish outdoors with open sky and safely run its power cable. Indoor Wi-Fi reception and the dish’s satellite connection are separate things: seeing the Wi-Fi network does not guarantee the dish is online.

Know what satellite internet can do

A Mini can be useful for a trip away from cellular coverage or as another connection at a temporary location. Performance depends on placement, obstructions, weather, network conditions, and the active service plan. We do not promise a particular speed or uninterrupted service.

Keep offline maps and essential trip information available. Plan another way to handle anything that depends on reliable emergency communication.

Bring the whole kit back

Return the equipment and listed accessories at the agreed place and time. Let the operator know promptly if your plans change or anything is missing or damaged. We’ll inspect the return and arrange release of an unused security hold.
